Music Hall: YUKI

YUKI (all caps, please) is one of the more prolific singers to have captured the Japanese imagination. She first hit the big time in 1991, when she formed a band called Judy and Mary with two guys – neither of whom were named Judy OR Mary, oddly enough. That collaboration lasted about a decade before she decided to fly solo, although she has had additional success with a band called NiNa (with Kate Pierson of the B-52’s) and Mean Machine (with Japanese pop star Chara).

Still going strong at 41 (even though she could probably pass for 12), YUKI’s unique voice and very creative videos have kept her in the spotlight for 22 years.
